GSF Board of Directors

GSF's Board of Directors currently includes ten individuals, drawn from different fields and professions, who share a commitment to improving and promoting global education:

M. Christopher Beckham, MEd
Senior Major Gifts Officer

Greenville, SC

Mr. Beckham’s background is in institutional development and fundraising.  He was recently appointed as Senior Major Gifts Officer in the Development Office of Furman University.  Previously, he was Director of Development for the College of Education at the University of South Carolina.  He also has raised money for museums, hospitals, and primary schools.  Mr. Beckham earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the College of Charleston and a master’s degree in education administration from Vanderbilt University.

Peter R. Beckman, PhD

Dr. Beckman is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY, having taught there thirty years.  A lifelong analyst and instructor of international relations, Dr. Beckman has published widely in the field.  His books include World Politics in the Twentieth Century, The Nuclear Predicament, and Women in World Politics.  He also has served as an Intergovernmental Exchange Fellow in the United States Department of Defense.  He earned a BA in international relations from Syracuse University, an MA in international relations from the University of Chicago, and an MA and a PhD in political science from the University of Wisconsin.  In addition to serving as a Director of GSF, Dr. Beckman continues to write and teach, most recently at Elon University and North Carolina State University.

Frank Eastman, EdD

Dr. Eastman serves as Treasurer of GSF.  After receiving his BA in mathematics from Purdue University, Dr. Eastman earned an MA in mathematics education from Teachers College at Columbia University, and a doctorate in education from Rutgers University.  He taught at both the secondary and college levels before joining Houghton Mifflin Company and becoming Executive Editor for K-12 math publications.  After more than a decade in that position, Dr. Eastman started his own company, Colophon Publishing Services, based in Charleston, SC, which produces educational materials for middle and high school instruction.  In addition to serving as GSF Treasurer, Dr. Eastman also continues as President of Colophon, a position he has held for the past twenty years.

Daniel R. Hare, MA

Mr. Hare’s background is in secondary education and the media. Currently he teaches in both the history and the English departments at Flintridge Preparatory School, where he also serves as an adviser, coach, and faculty sponsor for the student newspaper. Prior to Flintridge, Mr. Hare spent six years as a faculty member at St. Paul’s School in Concord, NH, where he advised and coached; served as a Head of House, an Admissions Office Liaison, and a Faculty Mentor; and taught in the humanities division, including courses on Cuba, media and American democracy, contemporary American history, law and government, and American foreign policy. A certified secondary educator in Arizona, Mr. Hare taught previously both in the Flagstaff Public High Schools and at Brophy College Preparatory, where he also was the Tutoring Program Coordinator. He has traveled extensively and is actively involved with several nonprofits, including Working Against Cancer and PEACE (Promoting Education Across Cultures Equally). Mr. Hare earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Arizona and his master’s degree in communication and American studies from Dartmouth College.                 

A. Christian Harth, PhD

Dr. Harth serves as President of the Global Studies Foundation and oversees its operations, including research, educational outreach programs, and philanthropy.  Concurrently, he also serves as Director of Global Studies and World Languages at St. Andrew's Episcopal School, PK-12 independent school in Mississippi, and as Assessment Co-Chair for the National Council for the Social Studies. His background includes teaching at the secondary and college levels; academic administration and teacher education; curriculum design; and policy planning.  Among the numerous subjects he has taught are international relations, national security, foreign policy, strategic studies, philosophy, anthropology, comparative religion, and history (including world, US, East Asian, European, and Russian), as well as writing, developmental reading, and study skills.  He earned his BA at Hobart College, with a double major in political science and international affairs, and received his MA and PhD in political science from the University of Pennsylvania.  He has received several teaching awards and fellowships, including the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching at the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as the Teacher-Education Coordinator for The Writing Program.  Dr. Harth has extensive research experience and has conducted policy-planning research at both academic and government institutions, including the United States Department of the Treasury.  Before founding and leading GSF, Dr. Harth’s most recent positions were as an Exchange Scholar in the Department of Government at Harvard University and as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Bucknell University.

Robert W. Hill, MA

Currently Mr. Hill is the Assistant Head of School and Upper School Principal at Carolina Day School in Ashville, NC.  Previously, he served as the Academic Dean and Director of the Office of College Advising at St. Paul's School in Concord, NH.  He has extensive experience in secondary instruction and administration.  The recipient of National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship at Princeton University, Mr. Hill also was a Klingenstein Fellow at Columbia University’s Teachers College.  In addition to serving as Academic Dean and directing the college office at St. Paul’s, he also has taught in the humanities division and served as Associate Dean of Faculty.  Previously, Mr. Hill taught and was Director of the College Office at Westminster School.  He earned a BA in English from Middlebury College and an MA from Middlebury’s Bread Loaf School of English.

Allison W. Price, MA

Ms. Price is Communications Director for the United States Peace Corps.  She has extensive experience in communications, international affairs and finance.  Prior to the Peace Corps, Ms. Price served as Communications Director for Stonebridge International, a strategic advisory firm based in Washington, and as Manager of Programs at the Business Council for the United Nations.  Previously, she worked for Credit Suisse First Boston, Paribas, and the Economist Group.  Ms. Price also worked for US Senator Harris Wofford, as well as several state and national political campaigns.  In addition, she interned with the US Commerce Department in Brussels and the White House.  She earned her BA in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in international history from the London School of Economics.

Anne Senf, BA

Ms. Senf is Director of Global Grandparents, a new GSF initiative to connect generations and help young people be part of the world, not a world apart. Ms. Senf’s background is in education, fundraising, community service, and the media. She was a ground-breaking TV personality in “Miss Anne, Romper Room” on WXAI Atlanta. Previously, she was an elementary educator, teaching third and fifth grades for five years at Trinity School. More recently, Ms. Senf was Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs at Duke University. She also served in leadership roles in numerous community and arts organizations, including the Atlanta Ballet, the High Museum of Art, and the Napa Valley Symphony. Ms. Senf received her BA from Duke University, where she was President of Women’s Student Government, and has completed postgraduate work at both Oglethorpe University and Georgia State University.

Scott A. Silverstone, PhD

Dr. Silverstone is Associate Professor of Political Science in the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy, where he directs the American foreign policy program, teaches international relations and political analysis, and serves as faculty advisor for the West Point Model United Nations Team, which has won several national and international championships.  He also is a Research Fellow with Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs.  He is an award-winning educator and author of two books on American foreign policy: Divided Union: The Politics of War in the Early American Republic and Preventive War and American Democracy: The Normative Dimensions of Strategic Choice.  Dr. Silverstone also is a former officer in the United States Navy, serving in numerous posts overseas (including the western Pacific, the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, and East Africa) and in the Pentagon, where he was involved with US operations in Iraq, Yugoslavia, Somalia, Haiti, and Kosovo.  Prior to his appointment at West Point, Dr. Silverstone taught at Williams College and at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also served as Assistant Director of the Browne Center for International Politics.  He earned his BA in political science from the University of New Hampshire and his MA and PhD in political science from the University of Pennsylvania.

Otho Tucker, PhD

Dr. Tucker is President and CEO of Lake Oconee Academy, a new charter school in Greensboro, GA.  He also is Founder and President of Otho Tucker Educational Services and Assistant Professor of Education at North Carolina A&T State University.  He has extensive experience in educational administration at the secondary level and is a national leader in the charter school movement, having served as chair of the National Charter School Institute Advisory Committee and on National Association of Charter School Authorizers Board of Directors.  Prior to starting his own firm, Dr. Tucker was Senior Vice President of Mosaica Education.  He also was Director of the Office of Charter Schools for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, where he was responsible for oversight of 100 charter schools, 1,250 teachers, and 21,500 students residing across the state, as well as being directly involved in the creation and implementation of State Board of Education policy.  Previously, he served as Headmaster at Burlington Day School and at Chatham Charter School, an institution he helped establish.  He also taught at both the secondary and postsecondary levels and served as a dean of students, athletic director, and upper school head.  Dr. Tucker received his BS from the University of Illinois (where he was an Academic All-American and drafted by the Boston Celtics), his MA in education from University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and his PhD in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on cultural studies from University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
