GSF President, Dr. Chris Harth, presents on "glocal citizenship" at Lawrence Academy and National Council for the Social Studies

Over a two-week stretch in November, GSF President, Dr. Chris Harth, gave two presentations on "adaptive education for glocal citizenship." Based on a working paper that still is in process, the presentations emphasized how schools need to prepare young people for emergent circumstances and for citizenship in multiple communities -- both near and far.

Dr. Harth gave the first presentation to the Board of Visitors at Lawrence Academy, an independent school in Groton, Massachusetts, which he attended.  Founded in 1793, Lawrence offers students a range of unique learning opportunities that are well suited for such "glocal" pursuits, including a skills-oriented Ninth Grade Program, a interdisciplinary approach to social studies, a two-week 'Winterim" program that focuses on experiential learning, and the Independent Immersion Program.

The following week, Dr. Harth offered a similar presentation to the International Assembly at the annual meeting of the National Council for the Social Studies, where Dr. Harth also serves as Co-Chair of the Assessment Community.  In addition to the presentation on "glocal citizenship," Dr. Harth also presented on "Critical Issues in Standardized Assessment" with other members from the Assessment Community.

For more information about these presentations or about the notion of "glocal citizenship," please contact Dr. Harth.
